How do you define Activist?

And he called Butler an activist ?

This is what Bucher said about Justice Lois Butler when he was mulling a run for the Supreme Court.

Keep these thoughts in mind as you read the next few upcoming posts.

“There’s only one item that’s worth focusing on in this race, and that is judicial philosophy,” Bucher said. “He’s an activist and he’s proud of it.”

Activist as an adjective describing a judge in my mind means a judge that wants to be more than a judge and do everybody else job too such as the legislators and the executive branch too.

The classic Republican definition of an activist judge is one that decides in a manner other than what the Republican wanted it. This holds true even if what the Republican wants is against the law.

So an activist lawyer would be one that does what she/he wants even if what the lawyer wants is against the law or the desires of his client or in the interest of justice?

Dear Jim:

Thank you for contacting HALT. While we provide general resources on a variety of legal topics, HALT is not a direct legal services provider; we do not represent clients and we are unable to give specific legal advice. We cannot advise you on the ethical obligations of a lawyer of judge to reveal knowledge of fraud or other criminal actions to any government agency.

The clerk of your local court may be able to answer this question for you or at least point you in the direction of further information. The professional conduct rules for lawyers and/or the code of judicial conduct in your state may also include specific references to the duty to reveal criminal actions. These rules are often available on the Internet.

I am sorry that HALT could not be of greater assistance to you at this time, and I want to wish you the best of luck in determining the answer to your inquiry.

Sincerely,

HALT - An Organization of Americans for Legal Reform

So what do we call someone in the executive branch who likes to tell the judicial branch to take a hike?

Wow, if Paul didn't know that Jessica wrote the Schimel letter for the Freeeman, I'll bet it's really cold in Merton today.
